Speculative Flexures

In Speculative Flexures I explore the transformation of metal from a static, industrial material to something active and living. Through an intuitive work process, working with methods as forging, welding, crocheting and knitting I have created sculptures which are dynamic, organic and entangled with each other. The project comes from a curiosity for how materials and the artist (me) interact and the relation that have evolved through the past years.

The project is based on theories from Jane Bennett, David Abram and Donna Haraway, as each one offers an understanding of materiality and agency in the relation between human and nature and materials. Ecofeminist perspectives have helped me to understand the connection between nature and women and society today. And Nordic Folklore has served more as an inspiration world to see my sculptures as living creatures with its own presence.
